Exploring Louisiana’s Cryptids: A Unique Map of Mythical Creatures
Season’s greetings to all! As we approach the new year, I’m excited to share a recent project that combines local folklore with creative artistry. I’ve crafted a detailed map highlighting various cryptids reported throughout Louisiana, capturing the mysterious creatures that have become part of the region’s cultural tapestry.
Designing this map involved a careful selection process, aiming to include a diverse array of cryptids from different areas, with special attention to the vibrant New Orleans region. While I endeavored to feature as many as possible, some unique entities might have been overlooked due to the extensive folklore across the state.
For enthusiasts interested in owning a print of this cryptid map, I’ve made it available through my Etsy shop. You can find it here: Etsy Listing.
A note on one of the featured cryptids—the Berwick Monster. Included on the map is an image of the Berwick Monster, which has often been associated with the internet-inspired creature known as the Rake. It’s important to clarify that the Rake creepypasta was developed after the alleged photograph of the Berwick Monster was taken in Louisiana. Despite visual similarities, the Berwick Monster and the Rake are entirely distinct entities. Including the Berwick Monster on the map aims to honor local folklore independently of internet mythologies, emphasizing the rich and varied nature of Louisiana’s cryptid lore.
This project is part of my ongoing fascination with regional legends and how they contribute to our understanding of local culture. I hope it sparks curiosity and appreciation for the mysterious stories that continue to intrigue communities across Louisiana.
